General Class Information


If you are interested in enrolling for a class, please contact the store.  Classes fill quickly and you cannot assume there will be room for you in class if you show up without pre-registering.

 

Class fees are due at the time that students register for class.

Supply lists will be provided at registration.  Supplies must be purchased prior to the start of class.  Students will receive a 10% discount on supplies purchased for the class from Sunshine Stitches.  To ensure the best possible results, we request that all fabric for classes be purchased from Sunshine Stitches.  We sell top quality fabrics in a wide range of colors and patterns to suit every taste. 

 

Classes may be cancelled if enrollment is too low.  If a class is cancelled by Sunshine Stitches, full refunds will be given.  If a student cancels a class within 48 hours from the start of class, the class fee can be used for another class or be applied towards store credit.  Cancellations not made within 48 hours of the class will result in forfeiture of the class fee.  Classes cancelled as a result of bad weather will be rescheduled.  If OPS schools are closed, classes will be canceled.  If you are unsure if a class will be held because of bad weather, please call the store to confirm.

Do you have 4 friends that want to take a class and the times don’t work out on our schedule, ask and we will try to do a special private class just for you!

Classes

Basic Clothing Construction

Learn basic clothing construction by making a pair of pajama pants. Students will learn how to read and use a pattern, how to select fabric, how to measure a hem and how to sew in a waistband.

Basket Lattice

Learn this great new technique from local artist, Sheri Pape. There is a secret to making a traditional basket lattice quilt using pre-cut fabric strip sets (or cutting your own 2 ½” strips) and we are going to share the secret in this class. Students will make a 22” square table cover in class to learn and practice the technique. This project is good for anyone with basic quilt making skills

Beginning Quilting - Throw Quilt

This 6 week class teaches “classic” quilt blocks like the Triple Rail, the Log Cabin, Churn Dash and the Ohio Star as well as 5 other blocks that make up this 12-block sampler quilt. Students will learn how to select fabrics, use a rotary cutter, chain piece, strip piece and add borders. The class is for the true beginner or for someone interested in freshening up their skills.

Binding Class

Learn everything you need to know to finish your project. This class will give hands-on experience with two different binding techniques. First learn the traditional method for binding including the hand stitching. Then learn to bind using a tool to miter your corners. Once your corners are mitered you will learn to machine stitch binding using fusible thread to eliminate the need for hand stitching.

Braid Runner Table Runner

A great looking table runner for fall using the deep rich colors in MODA’s October fabric line or straps from your stash. This pattern uses a quilt as you go method so once the piecing is done all you need to do is add binding and you are done! This class is a perfect beginner’s class.

Charm Party Tote

This “charming” tote bag is fun and soooo easy to make. You start by using pre-cut charm squares so these is very little cutting involved and the results are practically guaranteed. This class is great for the beginning quilter – including our new sewers! Young adults are welcome in this great beginner’s class.

Crazy 8 Strip Table Topper

Make this 44” x 44” table topper using 1 ½” strips either from your stash or maybe some of the great new fall fabrics. Once you see this table topper you will fall in love and want to make one for every season. Students should have their strips cut prior to class. Great project for beginners!

Crazy Curves Table Topper

Learn a new technique for making blocks with curves and circles. Using templates and techniques from Elisa’s Back porch cutting and sewing curves and circles is a cinch! Mastering this technique opens up a whole new style of quilts for you to create.

Free Motion Quilting

Learn tips and tricks to free motion quilting like a pro. Students will practice meandering, following a stenciled design and practice on a Skill Builder panel from Renae Allen. All these techniques will help you master your free motion quilting technique.

Lose your Fat (quarters)!

Use those fat quarters that you have been collecting and saving! We will be using the Fat 1/4 Favorite pattern for the September project. This pattern is for any skill level.

Moonlight Stitching at Sunshine Stitches

Spend a Friday night stitching at Sunshine Stitches. Bring your current project or that project that you put away but have been meaning to finish. This is open sewing from 6:00 pm until midnight. We will provide beverages and great company!

The class is ideal for newer sewers – including teens. In order to complete the bag during class we do ask that students cut their fabric prior to class.

Ragtime Quilt

Simple rag quilt that is the perfect size for baby. Using basic rotary cutting skills and straight stitches this quilt goes together in just a few hours. Sign up for this class and purchase your materials from Sunshine Stitches and we will embroider the baby’s name onto your finished quilt for free. This class is ideal for beginners.

T-Shirt Quilts

This is one of the most popular quilts of all time and is a great way to save those t-shirts that make you smile every time you see them. The shirts that you don’t wear anymore, don’t want to get rid of but don’t know what to do with. This class will show you how to plan out a t-shirt quilt, how to prepare the shirts, and how to crop and cut the shirts. Even though these quilts look hard, this project is actually fine for any beginner.

Winter Snow Tablerunner

Don’t let the name scare you – this tablerunner is cool but has nothing to do with snow, winter or cold! Changing to a 60 degree design log cabin you have both diamond and triangle blocks. Vary the strips within the blocks and you have endless designs for many beautiful quilts. Using techniques from Sara Nephew and Marci Baker’s Not Your Grandmother’s Log Cabin (pg 109) book students will learn this easy technique. This class is great for beginning/intermediate quilters.
